Best Website Competition Fall 2006
The USAID’s project “Macedonia Connects” had organized the competition for “The Best School Web Site in 2006”. 159 primary and secondary schools from all over the country were competing for the prestige awards.
The official announcement of the winners and presentation of the certificates and prizes were done on the “Award Ceremony for the Best School Web Site” that took place in Alexander Palace Hotel in Skopje on December 13, 2006.
Each of the first 5 ranked primary and first 5 ranked secondary schools had received official certificates and a color printer. Those primary and secondary schools that had won the first 3 places in addition also have received computer equipment worth $300 as second and $200 as for the third prize. The winners of the first prizes, primary school “Sts. Cyril and Methodius” and the secondary “Maria Kiri Sklodowska” were reworded with $1000 valued cheques for purchasing computer equipment.
The USA Ambassador to Macedonia, Her Excellency Jillian Milovanovic, addressed all the schools that had entered in the competition, congratulating them for putting such effort and creativity. She stressed out the importance of supporting children’s imagination and creativity, encouraging Macedonian institutions in implementation of the national strategy for information society development. The Minister of Education, Mr. Sulejman Rushiti, had supported such initiative saying that the Ministry will continue with such competition in the next coming years, transforming it into a tradition. After their speeches, Mrs. Milovanovic and Mr. Rushiti presented the certificates and handover the prices to the representatives of the winning schools.
The audience was pleasantly surprised when Mr. Sasho Macanovski–Trendo, Macedonian TV star and host of the show “Who wants to be a milliner”, appeared on the stage and presented the winners the giant $1000 cheques. As the Editor-in-Chief and Director of On.Net’s web site, he welcomed such competition as it contributes to the enrichment of the local e-contents and further development of the Internet in Macedonia.
The ceremony ended with a cocktail during which the attendees networked and exchanged their experiences in design and creation of the school web sites.
